Water Marbling

Water Marbling

If you need a nail art technique that will create designs that are as dazzling as the sun and as unique as snowflakes, "Water Marbling" is the technique for you. With this technique, no two nails will turn out the same. Each will remain an irreproducible work of art. Best of all, this technique is extremely easy, making it a perfect option for beginners. Marbled patterns make an excellent background against which to place delicate designs using gemstones or other elements, but they also look great on their own!

What You'll Need: a manicure bowl, water, Tip top NailChic nail polish, Tip Top top coat, Tip Top Nail Enamel Remover, and a marbling tool (you may use a needle, toothpick or chopstick). Skill Level: Beginner

Step 1
Fill a manicure bowl with cold kettle water until the water level is about five centimetres deep or more. (Note: it is okay to use a regular bowl, but you must make sure that it is large enough to fit your entire hand.)

Step 2
Now, proceed by placing a few of drops of white nail polish at the centre of the pool. For this first layer of polish, it is important to use several drops, otherwise the base coat might dry out too quickly. Just place one drop at a time and watch the polish slowly stretch outwards towards the edge of the bowl as you see above. If you can, try to use thin nail polish whenever possible. Thickened polish won't be as successful.

Step 3
Next, place a single drop of red polish at the very centre of your newly created circle of white polish.

Step 4
Once this drop of red polish begins to stretch out towards the edges place another small drop of white polish at its centre. Then place another drop of red within this circle of white. Repeat this process several times until you have a series of concentric circles as pictured above—red within white, white within red. Of course, you need by no means feel bound to use this same colour scheme. You can use any colours you want! Really! Let your imagination be your guide. You can use holiday themed colours, sports team colours, anything that you can think of. The more varied the colours, the more psychedelic the effect.

Step 5
Okay, now its time to break out your marbling tool. (Remember, you can use a chopstick or pretty much anything else with a sharp edge) Gently move the tool through the bullseye pattern to create lines and curves in any pattern that you'd like.

Step 6
After each line that you make, remove the marbling tool and give it a quick cleaning. This will ensure that your lines are as clearly drawn as possible.

Step 7
Create any pattern that is pleasing to you, just make sure to work quickly. If you don't, the nail polish could dry out as it floats atop the water. Try to do the entire process in about sixty seconds in order to prevent the polish from drying prematurely.

Step 8
Now that the pattern is complete, carefully insert your finger into the water at the edge of the bowl, being careful to make sure that you don't disturb the polish pattern. Then bring the fingernail under the polish pattern and slowly lift it up so that the polish adheres to the surface of the nail. You can now repeat this process with all your nails before the remaining polish will run out or begin to dry. If some polish remains in the bowl, simply lift it out using the marbling tool. At this point, you need to repeat steps two through eight with the remaining nails before moving on.

Step 9
Use a cotton swab damp with acetone to carefully clean the excess polish off of the areas surrounding the nails.

Step 10
Finally, simply apply a top coat and you're done! If you desires it, you can now proceed to add other rhinestones.

Cherries and Dots

Cherries and Dots Nail Art

1. Put on your Tip Top base coat.
2. Apply a coat of Tip Top French white polish. Put on a 2nd coat if needed.
3. On the ring finger apply a round-shaped reinforcement and then apply a coat of Tip Top 'Cherries in the Snow' red polish.
4. When the red is perfectly dry, start making some dots with the white polish. There are different ways to make dots. You can use an old pen, a toothpick or a hairpin.
5. On all the other nails we made a Red French with white dots. On the thumb we applied the nail polish dots a little bigger for cherries. I choose two different sizes for the cherries.
6. With the thin eyeliner brush and the green nail polish , draw the leaves of the cherries. When dry, apply your Tip Top Quick Dry Final Phase top coat.

Leopard Nails Step-by-Step

Leopard Print Nail ArtSTEP 1

a)Paint a layer of your favourite Tip Top Base Coat
b)Paint 2 layers of your favourite Tip Top NailChic colour. Leopard Print Can be done in any combination of colour
c)Paint uneven spots in another colour (use a ballpoint pen or toothpick to make spots) Add random, oddly-shaped dots.. They don't have to be neat or uniform, just plop 'em on wherever. And it's better if they aren't round.

STEP 2

a)Using Tip Top NailChic in any colour of your choice, place a blob of colour onto a [piece of tin foil.
b)Dip a very thin brush or a toothpick into the paint and outline the spots.
c)You want to make C and O shapes, and we like doing ones where you cover 2 sides of the dot. This should also be messy and not uniform, then it looks more natural.
d)Then you add small dots and C shapes in between your big dots wherever it seems empty.
e)Use a Tip Top topcoat to smooth it all out and you're done!

READ ALL ABOUT IT

We're back with another nail tutorial! This time, we're showing you how newspaper and rubbing Isopropyl alcohol can give your tips and toes a typographic edge. Not sure how to create this newspaper nail effect? Keep reading for the full step-by-step!

What You'll Need:
• Tip Top Base & Top Coat
• Tip Top NailChic Super Trooper is what we have used but you can use any light colour you wish
• Any newspaper (use a foreign language newspaper for an even more abstract design!)
• 70% or 91% Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol or Vodka

STEP 1
Tip Top Base Coat & Tip Top NailChic Colour
In broad, even strokes, apply a thin layer of your favourite Tip Top base coat. Then, apply two coats of any Tip Top NailChic polish in a light to medium shade. Choose a creamy, non-shimmery texture for best results

STEP 2
Prepare Newspaper
While your nails are drying, find any newspaper on-hand (or get a foreign-language paper for a cooler, abstract design!). Cut ten 5 cm x 2 cm strips (one for each nail), and set aside.

STEP 3
Newspaper Applications
Begin applying the newspaper only after your nails are completely dry. Dab rubbing alcohol on the nail bed with your finger or dip the whole nail into a small bowl of rubbing alcohol. We're using Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol but Vodka works just as well. Then, dip one newspaper strip into your small bowl of alcohol and shake it out. Overlay that newspaper strip directly on the nail bed and don't move! Most newspapers are double-sided anyway, but make sure you position the strip ink-side down. Take an alcohol-dampened paper towel and apply light pressure on the nail like a temporary tattoo. After 10 full seconds, slowly peel off the strip and you'll see the ink imprint. Repeat this process for each nail.

STEP 3
Tip Top Top Coat
Allow nails to dry again for five full minutes, seal the deal with your favorite Tip Top top coat. The glossiness of the clear lacquer will enhance and intensify the lettering—a truly one-of-a-kind typographic effect!

How to draw an anchor
Anchor Nail Art

1. Paint nail with Tip Top 'In the Navy' blue base.
2. Using a dotting tool (toothpick), roughly outline the shape of an anchor with white nail polish. As you can see, I just randomly dabbed on a design.
3. Fill in outline with white nail polish.

Look at how easy this was! Freehand painting is totally not as hard as you think!

Step by Step Nautical Nails:
Nautical Nail Art

1. Apply white polish on nails until opaque. I used two coats of Tip Top French White. By the way, you can always have the same design on all nails if you want!
2. When the polish dries, paint on two red stripes. Use an eyeliner brush to do this. Tip: Divide nail into six equal sections and approximate the average thickness of each stripe...OR just paint on whatever you like, I don't think it matters all that much!
3. With blue nail polish, paint a thin French tip along the free edge of the nail. You can use the FREE Nail Guides in the Tip Top French Manicure.
4. Stick on gold sequins to the ends of the stripes to complete the look.

Want a New Look for Your Nails? Lace them Up!

Lace Nail Art

The lace nail trend is hotter than ever due to its versatility and its ability to look sweet or edgy, depending on how you wear it. Celebs like J-Lo and Blake Lively have been seen wearing this sexy look and, luckily for you, recreating the style at home is much easier than it looks.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- Lace, preferably in black or another dark hue. You can find it at your local fabric store. About the size of your iPad or Cellphone
- A light-colored nail polish; our favourites are the Tip Top NailChic Pastel collection
- A clear Tip Top top coat like Tip Top Quick Dry Final Phase. The top coat is designed to dry hard and protect your nails from scratches and chips. To ensure the lace adheres to the nails, make sure you use the Quick Dry top coat instead of clear polish.
- A toothpick or orange stick
- Small scissors or nail clipper
- A nail file, tweezer and nail bling

PREP:
Cut ten small pieces of lace (black is our fave) so that they are slightly larger than your nails, then set aside.

SET:
File your nails as you would with a regular manicure. Apply a coat of light-coloured polish and let dry. Next, apply the clear top coat and immediately top with the pieces of lace. You may need to gently tap the nail edges with a toothpick or orange stick to smooth it down and prevent any corners from lifting. Apply an additional top coat to set the lace in place.

FINISH:
After allowing nails to dry (approximately 10 minutes), cut away any excess lace with the scissors or a sharp nail clipper. When nails are dry to the touch, carefully file the edges to smooth out any lace that might overlap. Applying another clear top coat (at this stage you can add nail bling if you wish) continue to apply every other day to increase the life of your manicure.

TO REMOVE:
Soak your nails in acetone to make sure you fully remove the lace and polish.

EXTRA CARE:
Add some Tip Top Cuticle Oil to make your new look last!

Step- By- Step to create Tip Top Nailchic Couture Nails

Yes! At last, you can master the Tip Top NailChic Couture Nails Look. Using nail guides will turn what could be a complete frustration into an absolute breeze. Here, we are using the Tip Top NailChic Space Cadet ; a very deep shade, tipped with gold (Tip Top NailChic Gold-digger). With the nail guides, it's a breeze, (Tip Top's French manicure has FREE nail guides included in the pack). We used two coats of Space Cadet over the entire nail and allowed it to dry completely. We then applied the nail guides, moving them around until they were in exactly the right place. Then we added two coats of Gold-digger and a coat of Tip Top Quick Dry Final Phase before removing the guides. We recommend that with this last process, you give the whole thing plenty of time to thoroughly dry. Results = stunning Tip Top NailChic Couture Nails!

How to Polka Dot

How to Polka Dot Nail Art

If you're not already convinced that nail art can be easy peasy, hopefully this little tutorial will help to change your mind. We will show you that you don't need any special nail art supplies to create perfect polka dots.
You will need:
• Basecoat
• Topcoat
• Nail varnish for your main, base colour. We used Tip Top NailChic 'Cherries in the Snow'
• Nail varnish in at least one contrasting nail varnish for the dots. We used Tip Top NailChic 'Cream Puff'
• A ballpoint pen

Prep nails as usual – remove all traces of old nail varnish, file into desired shape, massage in cuticle oil, push back cuticles if required, and wipe down one final time with nail varnish remover to degrease the nail plate – and apply one thin coat of basecoat.

1. Apply one-to-two thin coats of your chosen all-over colour – just enough to achieve opaque bottle colour. Then use the brush from your second bottle of colour to create a decent sized drop of the nail varnish you'll use to create the dots on a piece of plastic or stiff paper.
2. Dip the nib of a ballpoint pen (one that's used up is ideal, but not essential) into that nail varnish reservoir. The further into it you sink your pen, the more nail varnish it'll pick up, and the larger your dot will be.
3. Gently press the nib of the biro onto your nail and lift away again to leave behind a dot of colour.
4. You'll find it easiest to do a line of dots down the centre of the nail and work outwards from there, and we recommend that you occasionally wipe the nib clean to prevent it from dragging thin threads of beginning-to-dry nail varnish across your design.
5. Dots that are laid out on a very definite grid pattern look modern and give a near studded effect
6. …while ones that are staggered have a real retro feel.
7. Finish with a topcoat (applied carefully to prevent dragging or bleeding of the colours) and sit back and admire your handiwork while it dries. Et voila!
